DraftKings Financial Results: Revenue, Profit and Cash Flow

By Lucky BetMastermind - with help of ChatGPT

DraftKings earnings tell two different stories: substantial growth in reported revenue and a much narrower accounting loss, but continued volatility in quarterly profitability. The US-listed group's revenue rose from US$3.665 billion in 2023 to US$6.055 billion in 2025. Its 2025 result was a small US GAAP net profit attributable to DraftKings Inc.; the first six months of 2026, however, produced a net loss of US$46.540 million.

These are consolidated worldwide results, not accounts for a British subsidiary. The latest verified interim period in this analysis ends on 30 June 2026. DraftKings scheduled third-quarter results for after the US market closed on 5 November 2026, but a timetable is not a published result. The useful questions are how much revenue the business retains, what reaches GAAP earnings, and whether growth is turning into operating cash.

DraftKings Financial Results at a Glance: 2023 - 2025

All figures in the table concern DraftKings Inc. and its consolidated subsidiaries, use US dollars in millions and refer to financial years ending 31 December. Parent-attributable net profit or loss is not identical to operating profit or loss; the cash-flow line records actual operating cash movement under US GAAP. Parentheses indicate a negative figure.

Net cash provided by / (used in) operating activities(1.751)417.767662.855

Revenue increased approximately 30.1% in 2024 and 27.0% in 2025. The operating result improved markedly, but the US$3.710 million 2025 profit attributable to shareholders was tiny relative to more than US$6 billion in revenue. A profitable bottom line for one year therefore should not be described as a settled, high-margin business model.

Another change is important: cash from operating activities became positive in 2024 and rose again in 2025. That is a stronger signal of cash generation than revenue growth on its own. It still does not mean that every source of cash is recurring, that capital investment costs nothing, or that the company has no financing obligations. The figures are taken from the group's audited FY2025 annual filing, not calculated from a share-price website.

Where DraftKings Revenue Growth Comes from

DraftKings combines online sportsbook and casino activity with fantasy contests, a lottery courier business and newer event-contract activities. They can contribute different types of revenue, but the published consolidated income statement does not provide a standalone audited profit figure for each consumer-facing brand. A wager, contest entry, lottery ticket order or prediction contract's notional value is not automatically recognised revenue.

The economics of sports betting also depend on customer winnings. A period with high wagering activity can disappoint financially if outcomes favour players or promotions reduce the amount the operator retains. Conversely, a short-term increase in retained betting revenue does not by itself mean customer acquisition became cheaper or earnings more sustainable. The full distinctions between stakes, gaming revenue and service fees are explained in our DraftKings business model analysis.

Changes in business mix matter as well. Casino play may be less tied to the sporting calendar, while a lottery courier operation earns through a service arrangement rather than by issuing a state lottery. Acquisitions have added customers, products, technology and intangible assets. Revenue growth across these activities should be read alongside costs and cash flow, not used as a shortcut for corporate profit.

Why DraftKings Adjusted EBITDA Is Not GAAP Profit

Earnings coverage frequently puts Adjusted EBITDA beside statutory revenue and net profit. They measure different things. GAAP earnings reflect the accounting rules used in the consolidated financial statements; Adjusted EBITDA is a company-defined supplemental measure that removes specified items from a starting GAAP result. Its exact reconciliation, not the acronym alone, determines what has been excluded.

Accounting result versus management-adjusted performance
US GAAP reported measureManagement-adjusted measure
Operating profit or loss includes operating expenses and relevant accounting charges. FY2025: loss of US$15.817m.Adjusted EBITDA applies issuer-specified adjustments and is not an operating-profit line in the audited GAAP statement.
Net income attributable to DraftKings Inc. reflects the applicable below-operating items and attribution. FY2025: profit of US$3.710m.A positive adjusted measure does not establish the same amount of shareholder profit, tax-paid earnings or free cash flow.
Operating cash flow follows reported cash movements from operating activities. FY2025: positive US$662.855m.EBITDA adjustments are not a replacement for cash-flow statements, capital expenditure or changes in working capital.

DraftKings' reconciliation should be read alongside the release whenever management reports Adjusted EBITDA. Depending on the reporting definition, adjustments can address depreciation and amortisation, share-based compensation, transaction-related costs and other items. Some excluded costs can still matter economically to investors, employees or creditors. Even a perfectly calculated positive Adjusted EBITDA figure cannot be called “net earnings”.

My interpretation is that the striking improvement in operating loss from 2023 to 2025 deserves attention, while the narrow 2025 attributable profit deserves equal prominence. Different metrics answer separate questions: operational momentum, statutory profitability, and cash conversion. Presenting only the most flattering number would obscure the actual earnings picture.

For FY2025, DraftKings reported Adjusted EBITDA of US$619.987 million, compared with US$181.307 million in FY2024. These are non-GAAP figures taken from the issuer's February 2026 results release and its reconciliation to GAAP net income. The FY2025 adjusted figure is markedly different from the US$3.710 million net profit attributable to DraftKings Inc. under GAAP; neither should be substituted for the other. The reconciliation includes adjustments that readers should examine before drawing conclusions about underlying profitability.

DraftKings Q2 and First-Half 2026 Results

For the three months ended 30 June 2026, DraftKings recorded revenue of US$1,443.235 million, down approximately 4.6% from US$1,512.507 million in Q2 2025. The Q2 2026 net result attributable to the company was a US$67.610 million loss, against a US$157.936 million profit a year earlier. The issuer linked weaker quarterly revenue to customer-friendly sports outcomes and increased promotional reinvestment.

The six-month picture is different. For 1 January - 30 June 2026, consolidated revenue was US$3,089.311 million, compared with US$2,921.313 million in H1 2025, an increase of approximately 5.8%. The H1 2026 attributable net loss was US$46.540 million, versus a US$124.072 million profit in the prior-year half. Its H1 operating result was a US$62.327 million loss, whereas the comparable H1 2025 operating result was positive US$104.313 million.

Quarter and half-year figures must not be plotted as equivalent periods. H1 contains Q1 and Q2; neither H1 number is a third-quarter or nine-month result. The annual table above also measures an entire financial year, so comparing it directly with a single quarter without a label would exaggerate or understate trends.

Operating metrics provide context but not an alternative income statement. Q2 2026 Sports Consumer Volume reached US$13.1 billion, a reported 15% year-on-year increase. Monthly Unique Payers were approximately 3.6 million, up 9%, while average revenue per MUP was approximately US$132, down 13%. The activity measure includes money flowing through sports products, not a claim that DraftKings booked US$13.1 billion of quarterly sales. Paying users are also not equivalent to all registered accounts.

Those movements explain the apparent contradiction: stronger sports activity and more payers alongside reduced revenue per payer and a GAAP quarterly loss. Earnings depend on outcomes, reinvestment and the cost structure as well as the scale of engagement. The interim Form 10-Q is unaudited; its figures should not be presented as the outcome of a completed annual audit.

DraftKings Q3 2026 Earnings: Reporting Calendar and Evidence

DraftKings announced that it would release results for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 after the US market close on 5 November 2026, with a conference call scheduled for 6 November. At the research cut-off for this article, the verified official quarterly archive displayed Q2 as the latest available financial release. An announced reporting date does not establish a Q3 result, a nine-month total, or a revised forecast.

Once the Q3 Form 10-Q and earnings release are available, the correct comparison is Q3 2026 against Q3 2025, and nine months ended September 2026 against the matching 2025 period. Revenue, operating result, attributable net income, operating cash flow and management's forward guidance should each retain their own period, basis and unit. It would be misleading to extrapolate nine-month sales merely by extending H1 at the same monthly rate.

For historical context, the numbers elsewhere in this article remain explicitly dated to FY2025 or Q2/H1 2026. The company's investor-relations quarterly-results archive and SEC filings are the authoritative places to confirm a later release, rather than relying on an earnings countdown or an unsourced social-media summary.

Cash, Restricted Funds and What Liquidity Really Means

At 30 June 2026, DraftKings reported US$983.882 million of cash and cash equivalents. That balance is not the same as every dollar appearing in cash-related balance-sheet categories. The company separately disclosed US$8.596 million of restricted cash and US$395.030 million of cash reserved for users. The latter relates to amounts held for customers and must not be presented as fully discretionary corporate funding.

The group also had an undrawn US$500 million revolving credit facility at that reporting date. An undrawn facility is access to borrowing subject to contractual conditions, not money already held in a bank account. Adding US$500 million directly to unrestricted cash and labelling the total “cash on hand” would misrepresent the balance sheet. Drawing the line would generally increase cash and borrowing obligations together rather than create earned revenue.

Reported assets totalled US$4,277.379 million, compared with US$3,707.951 million of liabilities and US$569.428 million of stockholders' equity. Acquired goodwill and intangible assets form part of the asset base; they cannot be treated like a cash reserve available to fund marketing or repay debt immediately. A cash assessment therefore needs the balance-sheet classification, not just a headline total.

DraftKings Debt and Operating Cash Flow

The June 2026 Form 10-Q reported convertible notes of US$1,260.421 million net and a Term B loan balance of US$574.574 million net. “Net” here reflects the instruments' carrying values after relevant accounting adjustments; it is not a declaration that unrestricted cash has already been deducted. The Term B loan had approximately US$592.5 million of outstanding principal, a reported weighted-average interest rate of 5.39%, and a March 2032 contractual maturity.

These obligations have different terms and should not be flattened into one generic interest rate or repayment date. The convertible notes also have features that distinguish them from conventional bank borrowing. Any calculation of “net debt” must state which liabilities are included, which cash is genuinely unrestricted, and whether book values or outstanding principal are used. Leases and customer-related liabilities introduce further distinctions that a simplified debt headline may miss.

For the six months ended 30 June 2026, DraftKings generated US$63.001 million in cash from operating activities, compared with US$54.905 million in the equivalent 2025 period. This approximately US$8.1 million improvement contrasts with the deterioration in GAAP earnings over those same halves. Cash generation and accounting profitability can move in different directions because of non-cash charges and changes in operating assets and liabilities. Financing cash flow for H1 2026 was negative US$186.644 million and investing cash flow negative US$93.444 million. Neither a positive operating cash flow nor the FY2025 whole-year figure of US$662.855 million guarantees lasting free cash flow.

DraftKings repurchased shares during H1 2026, but repurchases are financing decisions, not an expense that reduces GAAP operating profit in the same way as payroll or promotions. How its shares and capital-return policy fit into the wider investor picture is covered in our DraftKings shares and dividends guide.

FY2026 Financial Guidance: Forecast versus Achieved Results

In its August 2026 Q2 release, DraftKings reiterated guidance for FY2026 revenue of US$6.5 - 6.9 billion and Adjusted EBITDA of US$700 - 900 million. These were management's forecasts, not realised 2026 annual results and not a guarantee that outcomes would fall inside the range. Adjusted EBITDA guidance also cannot be translated directly into a GAAP net-profit forecast.

Guidance can change with sports outcomes, promotions, customer trends, gaming taxes, regulation, spending and new strategic investment. A later Q3 announcement may revise those ranges, so the August figures need their date beside them until superseded. The H1 sales figure of US$3.089 billion is a reported result, while the full-year range remains an estimate concerning months not yet fully reported at the article's research cut-off.

Comparing actual figures with management targets can be informative, but subtracting H1 revenue from an annual target does not predict the second-half result. Seasonality and sports-event outcomes mean that two halves are not interchangeable. The company and its investors may define success differently, especially where accounting earnings and adjusted measures diverge.

What Could Strengthen or Weaken Future Earnings?

More paying customers, improved product mix and tighter technology integration may support revenue, but their economic benefit depends on acquisition costs and player outcomes. Promotions can lift activity while depressing near-term revenue per payer. Betting taxes, licensing requirements, payments, staff and technology costs also determine how much gross economic activity reaches the bottom line.

Owning more technology can offer control over product development and data flows, yet brings engineering expenditure, integration obligations and operational risk. Debt and convertible financing create obligations that remain relevant even when Adjusted EBITDA looks favourable. Expanding into event contracts or other products does not prove a disclosed new profit stream merely because the strategic opportunity is credible.

My view is that the decisive financial test is repeatability: can DraftKings sustain cash generation and improve GAAP earnings through different sports-result environments, without requiring an ever-greater promotional or financing commitment? That is more revealing than treating one favourable quarter as the business's permanent margin. Broader exposure is addressed in our DraftKings risks and opportunities analysis.

The Financial Bottom Line

DraftKings' recent financial history is one of fast revenue growth, narrowing annual GAAP operating losses and improved operating cash flow, alongside continued interim volatility. Its 2025 attributable profit was modest, its first-half 2026 attributable result negative, and its annual guidance was still a forecast at the research cut-off. The next step for any reader is to compare the same periods and accounting measures, not to equate sportsbook volume, Adjusted EBITDA and cash.
