Entain earns money by operating betting and gaming businesses across digital and retail channels, while technology supports the products, trading decisions and customer services behind them. Its business also includes evidenced technology and service relationships with third parties and the separately owned US venture BetMGM. The Entain business model is therefore more than a collection of betting brands: it combines customer-facing operations, specialist capabilities, distribution costs and different accounting relationships.
For the listed parent and the wider group, see our Entain company overview.
Three questions need separate answers. Which business earns revenue from a customer? Which company supplies the software or expertise? And whose results appear in Entain's consolidated accounts? Common group ownership does not make the answers interchangeable. This guide explains those layers without assuming that every brand runs an identical platform or customer account.
How Entain Makes Money: Commercial Model and Technology Map
In broad terms, online sportsbooks, gaming websites and betting shops earn from gambling activity, subject to winnings paid to customers and the applicable accounting treatment. Operating that activity also requires marketing, staff, software, payments, regulation and risk controls. An individual product can generate revenue without delivering a corresponding profit.
| Activity | Commercial role | Core capability | Costs and reporting caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online sportsbook | Betting activity and the margin between stakes and payouts | Markets, pricing, trading, settlement and account operations | Sports results, promotions, customer acquisition, duties and platform costs; margin varies |
| Online casino, poker and bingo | Gaming activity and relevant fees or gaming revenue | Game delivery, payments, player protection and third-party content integration | Supplier fees, bonuses, compliance and taxes; models differ by product |
| Retail betting | In-person betting activity | Shops, terminals, staff, payments and trading links | Property and labour create a different cost base from online operations |
| Platform or B2B services | Technology or service provision where evidenced | Software, product and specialist expertise | Third-party revenue must be distinguished from internal allocations |
| BetMGM US venture | Entain's 50% ownership interest and relevant commercial services | Technology, products and US-localised operations | BetMGM's full revenue is not Entain's consolidated revenue |
This map is an explanation of economic functions, not a diagram of an undisclosed universal Entain software installation. Brand-level operating companies, territories and licence holders are considered in Entain's brands and subsidiaries.
Online Betting and Gaming Operations
Sportsbooks: Trading Margin, Not a Guaranteed Percentage
A sportsbook accepts stakes against quoted outcomes. Its economic result depends on the odds offered, the outcomes that occur, bets accepted and amounts returned to customers. That outcome is not a fixed commission on every stake. Trading models help operators price markets and manage exposure, but unexpected results can reduce or reverse the expected margin.
Advertising, sponsorship, offers and affiliates add acquisition costs. Operators also fund payments, identity checks, customer service, safer-gambling controls and taxes. Betting turnover, net gaming revenue, accounting revenue and profit are distinct measures.
Casino, Poker and Bingo: Different Mechanisms
Online casino economics depend on the performance of gaming products over actual play, after payouts and relevant adjustments. A theoretical return-to-player percentage is a property of a game design over a very large sample, not a promise about an individual's session or an operator's short-term results. In poker, operator income may instead include fees charged for facilitating player activity. Bingo has its own prize and participation structures.
Entain has described proprietary gaming content and in-house studios, but externally supplied games and technical dependencies can also form part of an online offering. Which specific supplier, game or account architecture applies varies by brand and jurisdiction. A corporate overview cannot establish availability for an individual player.
Retail Betting and the Limits of Omnichannel Claims
Ladbrokes and Coral give Entain a substantial historical retail presence in Britain. Shops involve premises, employees, terminals, security and local operating requirements. Digital channels have their own infrastructure and acquisition costs, but do not carry the same physical estate. Comparing the two merely by total stakes conceals these structural differences.
Entain reported that it completed the rollout of its proprietary Group BetStation technology across Ladbrokes and Coral shops in the UK and Ireland in 2025. According to its annual report, the programme covered more than 2,400 shops and 12,000 converted betting terminals. This provides a measurable example of in-house technology being deployed at scale. It does not, however, establish that customers can use identical accounts, balances or promotions across the group's different brands.
“Omnichannel” describes a connection across channels, not necessarily shared logins, bonuses or identity checks. Such features require product-specific evidence.
Entain Technology: Platform Capabilities versus Implementation
Entain publicly describes proprietary technology across core product verticals and a modular platform serving multiple markets. A September 2025 product announcement identified sports, gaming, marketing and player account management as four broad pillars. Its 2025 annual report also discussed platform strategy, player experience and sportsbook trading. These statements support the existence of group-level capabilities; they do not publish the complete source-code architecture or prove that each product uses the same implementation.
A capability is not the same as its deployment. Central sportsbook modules may still require localised payments, permissions and controls. Proprietary products can also depend on third-party data, software and content.
As an illustrative sequence, software quotes a price, trading controls assess exposure, accepted bets are recorded and results are settled. This is not a verified map of Entain's private systems.
Platform reliability, cybersecurity and data quality remain important operational requirements.
Sportsbook Pricing, Modelling and Risk
Sports trading turns information and assumptions about possible outcomes into prices that an operator is willing to offer. Forecasting can estimate probabilities; pricing also needs to consider correlated outcomes, market conditions, commercial decisions and existing exposure. A model's estimated probability is not certainty about the eventual result.
Outcomes within one match can be correlated. Pricing them independently could misstate a combined bet's risk; specialist modelling can help estimate those dependencies. Entain's precise algorithms are undisclosed.
Trading controls influence quoted prices, limits and exposure. Models cannot guarantee correct predictions or freedom from losses.
Angstrom Sports: Forecasting and Specialist Pricing
Entain completed its acquisition of Angstrom Sports on 2 October 2023. Its acquisition announcements described Angstrom as a specialist in US sports forecasting, data analytics and pricing, particularly relevant to in-play and combined-bet products. The stated rationale was to strengthen trading and product capability, including services supporting BetMGM. The deal terms were £81 million of initial consideration and up to £122 million in contingent payments; the maximum contingent amount is not evidence that it was all ultimately paid.
There is evidence of actual product application rather than just acquisition rhetoric. In 2024, Entain described Angstrom-enabled play-by-play pricing in BetMGM baseball products. Its September 2025 update referred to live same-game parlay features in the US developed with Angstrom. Those examples establish dated uses in specified products. They do not demonstrate that Angstrom prices every sport or every market at every Entain brand.
The corporate name also needs care. The Angstrom website's legal materials identify the UK company ASF LTD, registered under number 11682911. Entain's 2025 subsidiary disclosures also identify US Angstrom-related entities. The existence of several legal names does not allow us to infer every immediate shareholder between them merely because Entain reports a group-effective interest.
Stadium Technology Group: A Separate Corporate and Technology Question
Stadium Technology Group, LLC is a named technology-related entity within Entain's US corporate disclosures, not a generic reference to sports stadiums. Public gaming-regulator records identify it as an entity in the relevant historical group structure. Its presence is evidence of an identifiable corporate business, but not enough to catalogue every current product that it maintains or licenses.
A 16 May 2024 Nevada Gaming Commission order recorded Ladbrokes Holdco, Inc. with a 79% interest and Ladbrokes Subco with a 21% interest in Stadium Technology Group, LLC. That is a dated regulatory ownership snapshot, not a continuously verified 2026 cap table. The same order varies the suffix of Ladbrokes Subco between “LLC” and “Inc.”; this documentary conflict must not be converted into an invented additional company.
Regulatory references are not incorporation numbers. A cancelled West Virginia foreign registration does not prove that the Nevada company dissolved.
Angstrom and Stadium: What the Entity Evidence Actually Shows
| Name | Jurisdiction / identifier | Evidenced role | Ownership basis and date | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASF LTD | UK, company 11682911 | Legal entity identified in Angstrom website materials | Website legal disclosures and group research | Not identical to the separately named US Angstrom companies |
| Angstrom Sports Inc.; Angstrom Sports Virginia LLC; Angstrom Sports NJ LLC | US entities; distinct names | Angstrom-related entities in subsidiary disclosures | 2025 Entain group-effective interest reported as 100% | Immediate ownership chain is not established by that percentage alone |
| Stadium Technology Group, LLC | Nevada entity; regulator reference 32379-01 | US technology-related group business | Nevada order, 16 May 2024: 79% Holdco / 21% Subco | Historic ownership only; current cap table not independently verified |
| Ladbrokes Holdco, Inc. and Ladbrokes Subco | US regulatory identities | Historic holders of Stadium interests | Nevada order, 16 May 2024 | Subco LLC/Inc suffix inconsistent in the same source |
Acquisition dates and legal identities belong to separate evidential questions. For the transaction chronology rather than the operating technology, consult Entain's corporate history.
BetMGM, Commercial Services and the Accounting Perimeter
BetMGM in the United States is a 50/50 joint venture of Entain and MGM Resorts. Entain states that it supplies technology and capabilities, including specially developed products and content. It also describes B2B services for a number of third-party customers. Those are genuine commercial dimensions, but they should not be added together as if each reference represented wholly separate consolidated external revenue.
BetMGM's full gaming revenue belongs to its own reporting perimeter. Entain accounts for its 50% investment using the equity method, not by consolidating all BetMGM revenue. Service payments require their own accounting treatment; internal charges do not create new group revenue.
Product technology can therefore support BetMGM without turning that US operation into a wholly owned subsidiary. Nor should the US joint venture be confused with the separately operated BetMGM UK website. Readers comparing reported NGR, accounting revenue and profit should use Entain's financial results, where the reporting boundaries matter more than a list of technologies.
What Entain's Operating Model Depends on
The business needs more than attractive products: licensed market access, trusted payments, reliable data, specialist employees, suppliers, sound financial controls and customer protection are all operational dependencies. Changes in gambling duties can affect the economics of otherwise successful activity; new rules can alter which products are offered and how customer accounts are managed.
Those dependencies differ across countries. A feature announced for US baseball betting should not be assumed to be available in the UK, and an identified UK legal entity does not automatically hold the licence for every group website. See Entain markets and licences for jurisdiction-specific distinctions, and Entain's risks and opportunities for their broader implications.
How Strong Are the Technology Claims?
| Evidence class | Example | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Primary-filed | Annual-report subsidiary disclosures; Nevada regulatory order | Dated legal or reporting facts, with their stated scope |
| Company-described | Modular platform or Angstrom product announcement | What Entain says it offers or has launched, not an independent code audit |
| Analytical inference | Shared modelling may improve management of correlated exposure | An explanation of how such capability could matter, not a proven profit effect |
| Unconfirmed | One wallet or identical KYC architecture across all group brands | No group-wide conclusion should be drawn |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Entain Make Its Money from Betting or Technology?
Consumer betting and gaming operations are central to its business. Proprietary technology supports those operations, while evidenced third-party services and the BetMGM venture create additional, differently reported relationships.
Does Entain Own Its Betting Platform?
Entain reports proprietary platform and product capabilities. This does not mean it owns every underlying component or that every brand deploys an identical system.
What Does Angstrom Sports Do for Entain?
Angstrom contributes specialist US sports forecasting, modelling and pricing capabilities. Dated announcements identify applications in particular BetMGM products, rather than a universal rollout.
Is Stadium Technology Group a Sports Venue Business?
No. Here the name refers to a specific US legal entity identified in gambling-regulator and group records. Its exact current ownership and products require entity-specific evidence.
Does BetMGM's Revenue Belong Entirely to Entain?
No. Entain has a 50% interest in the US joint venture, whose full revenue is not consolidated as Entain's own revenue.
Our Assessment
For me, Entain's business model is most clearly understood as three connected but distinct layers: customer propositions generate gambling activity; trading and technology make those propositions operational; and legal and accounting boundaries determine which economic results belong to the group. Angstrom and Stadium illustrate why a technology story needs both product evidence and careful company identification. Neither a common brand portfolio nor an impressive platform claim replaces those distinctions.
